"From experimentation to a conscious artistic identity."
My musical practice has long been shaped by group projects and collaborative ensembles, but a recent development grant from the Flemish Government gave me the dedicated time and space to explore a personal journey: focusing on tunewriting and establishing myself as a solo artist on the chromatic accordion.
During this intensive trajectory, I worked closely with international mentors like Kris Drever, Jeroen Geerinck, and Yann Falquet. Together, we focused on the core of traditional folk: crafting strong, recognizable melodies rooted in oral tradition that prioritize simple beauty and emotional honesty over mere virtuosity. Alongside composition, I expanded my technical palette—incorporating new acoustic phrasing, grooves, and subtle live electronics—and equipped my home studio to arrange and record detailed demos.
This journey has shifted my artistic profile from being primarily a band member to also stepping forward as a visible maker, arranger, and soloist. With successful initial test performances at festivals abroad, a growing repertoire featured in my duo and ensemble work, and refined pedagogical tools for my workshops, this grant has laid a sustainable foundation for years of future creation.
The development of this artistic trajectory was made possible with the support of the Flemish Government.
